Guest
Aro + Autism Hello again guys i'm doing other topic of interseccionality this time is with the aromantic spectrum the autism and the aromanticism are relationed? There are aromantics people that maybe are autistic the arromanticism is a condition to equal that the autism but the relation that has is possible that are connected there is a conexion between autism and aromanticism we know that the aromanticism is characterized per lack of romantic atraction to others people while the autism is a neurologic condition where the person creates his own world and does not relation with the exterior sometimes the aromantics people that are down of the authisc spectrum would have a relationship the aromanticism and the autism can or can't be connected in my case i do not have scientifists evidence of this but is possible find Aro people identified as autistic i do not what is the percent of this aro + autism the relation of these 2 conditions possible that is connected the autistic people does not can or feel not love of romantic form does not experience those feeling of love because in their world and that condition but not alls the autistic people is aromantic and not alls the aromantics are autistic but i'm giving opinion of this is possible have a result okey good someone more that in the spectrum of aromanticism and autism? Ekaterina
I'm both aro and very likely autistic (or really similar to that at least), so looks like I'm an example. I heard several times that a correlation actually is a thing here, to the point that I once saw in the Internet an autism test that included aro and ace-themed questions that contributed to the probability of the person being autistic. (I have no idea on how professional was that test, so not sure how much does it mean)
Kristoph
I'm both aromantic and autistic. I don't feel like there was some link between them. Especially because there are neurotypical queer people and neurodivergent cishets.
Collie
Diagnosed autistic. I don't feel they are connected, but they do say that we are way way more likely to identify as non-cishet.... I think it's simply because we don't fit in anyways. So we deal with less compulsive heterosexuality.
alto
I am diagnosed autistic. I am lith/aromantic. Honestly, I am not sure if it is connected to having autism. Kind of doubt it tho.
ABC
Great, I’m not alone! (Yes, I was diagnosed as a toddler.) And yes, I also think aroness isn’t caused by autism, because there are plenty of other autistics who aren’t aro. But, I do think as autistics, tending to misinterpret subtleties, can confuse us on whether we’re feeling a crush or a squish if the allonormative+neurotypical world would interpret certain actions mean we are interested in someone romantically, when what we really meant is totally platonic, for example. The misunderstandings just because the allonormative+NT society dictated definitions of every combination of actions and behaviors imaginable. Like wanting to have a nice candlelit dinner, dinner and a movie, etc, doesn’t need the presence of a romantic partner, it can be done as a solitary self-care activity or done with family or/and friends. Lilac
*raises hand* hello fellow autism creatures! I would say that my romantic orientation is heavily affected by my autism, to the point that one of my identities IS autiromantic. This means my romantic orientation is so affected by being autistic to the point that it is an intergral part of my romantic identity. being autistic affects me in so many ways, but especially because it makes it SO VERY HARD to distinguish romantic from platonic feelings for people. which is why I’ve dubbed myself aroace because I can’t figure it out. TrueEvergreen
Honestly while I am both autistic and aroace, I don't really think that one influences the other heavily, but who knows?
That_Gurl_Sparklez
I'm an autistic aroflux person, and I feel like my neurodivergence plays a roll in my romantic attraction. Like, I definitely feel romantic attraction was different than a neurotypical person would. It's hard to explain, though, especially since I'm feeling completely aromantic right now and have like, almost zero spoons ;-; Edited October 12 by That_Gurl_Sparklez It corrected aromantic to romantic -_-
RavenIsWerid
I don't know but maybe it could be? For me personally autistic and having ADHD never had anything to do with being Aromantic though maybe it could connect? It's slightly iffy to me though if maybe their was some hard proof of it then maybe but for now I'm open to it but not going to fully believe it if you know what I mean lol. That's just my thoughts though. <
